Reminder: May 10, 2014

The final spot on our Quilts Around the World trip is Ireland with Donna.  Can’t wait.
Don’t forget to bring your show and tell.  And bring your sewing along to spend some time in the afternoon working on your latest project.  Maybe your Challenge projects for this year.
Set Up: Barb, Denise, Janet, Carol B
A Note to our set up ladies: Please remember to bring cream for the coffee.  Please be in contact with each other to confirm who will be bringing the cream.  Thank you so much.

For June we are two people short on the set up crew.  Are there two people who would be willing to fill those spots?  Please let Mary know at the May meeting.

Some Notes from Mary:

In November, when Trish did her presentation on the EPP, there was an Old Grandmother’s Flower Garden quilt that came from one of our members.  If that if your quilt, would you consider bringing to the May meeting and allowing us to use it in our display for the Heritage Park show?

If one of your quilts is being used at our guild table, please remember to bring it to the May meeting.

Looking forward to seeing everyone.

April Meeting: Thank you to Shirley H. for an interesting presentation about African Quilts.

RECAP OF APRIL MEETING

Quilts Challenges:

It was great to hear that many people are well into their Trip Around the World quilts and that many have completed their Brown Bag Challenges.  Don’t forget about the Chatelaine challenge as well.

Compassion Quilts UPDATE:

Thank you to Carla and Trish for making new labels for the Compassion quilts.  More where quilted and home with our lovely ladies for binding and labels.  Thank you again to everyone for their hard work.

Welcome to Karen – Lister’s wife from England who came to stay after his accident, wrote us a lovely thank-you note and would like to move to Canada but Lister has other feelings about that right now.

Charity Quilts:

Kelly  is the contact for two Charity Opportunities :

South Calgary Health Campus needs neo-natal quilts – 30 x 24 inches – 100% cotton only.  Please do not use sprays like basting spray.  The quilts will be washed at the hospital. Can contain a small quilt guild label. Also flannel receiving blankets – the usual size
Meals on Wheels will accept most sizes of placemats – we have found that 13 x 17 fits on a tray and two sided is nice. Kelly will collect both and drop off when she has a bunch.

Heritage Park Quilt Show May 24-25, 2014

All Volunteer Times are covered – YEAH!
Mary has the dinner tickets – YEAH!
We have enough modern quilts and other projects to cover the tables. YEAH!
CQA
Janet M. is becoming the CQA representative.  Thanks Janet, you will be a wonderful representative.  Janet will present a winning rosette at the June meeting, take a photo and do a mini write up about us.
Upcoming Quilt Guild Information
Remember that your dues for the 2014-2015 year are due in JUNE
Please start thinking of ideas for challenges, projects or classes for our planning meeting in JUNE.  If you have any, feel free to email Jen as she has a list going with others that have been mentioned at the meetings.
An idea that we will discuss in June is the thought of an outdoor quilt show and tea in August on Market Day to possibly raise funds.
Thank you to our Sunshine Lady, Linda, for giving flowers on behalf of the guild to Betty and Susan.
If there is anyone else who would be willing to help with set up in June, please let Mary know as we are a couple of people short.

We will be making our final stop on our Quilts Around the World trip in May to Ireland with our friend Donna.  Can’t wait.

Set Up: Barb, Denise, Janet, Carol B

Reminder: April 12, 2014 Meeting

Our next stop on the trip around the world in quilts is to Africa and South Africa where Shirley H. will share their techniques and style.
Don’t forget to bring your show and tell.  And bring your sewing along to spend some time in the afternoon working on your latest project.  Maybe your Challenge projects for this year.
Set Up: Janice, Louise, Helen, Zena

Next Instalment of  Charity Work – The Placemat:

Using our 9.5″ orphan blocks we will create a finished placemat quilt top measuring 13″x17″.  There will be only ONE exchange for this charity project.  If you have taken a block please complete the 13″x17″ quilt top and bring it back in April.  In April we will return it to the “owner” of the block who will add batting and backing and quilt it using a sandwich style so there is no binding.

People who are currently participating are: Pat S. Carla, Betty, Louise

Don’t Forget about the Heritage Park Quilt Show May 24-25, 2014

The theme for this year’s guild table will be: Quilting Education and Something old/Something New.

If you are able to LOAN a modern quilt for the booth please let Mary know.

We are in need of volunteers at the table for the 9:30-1 slot and the 1-5 slot.  Please let Mary know if you are available.

Does anyone have a large piece of clear plastic to cover the table?  Unfortunately, ours went missing last year.  Please let Mary know.

Does anyone have small modern quilts or other small items to fill out the table display?  Perhaps some MUG RUGS?

We will also include a charity quilt in our display this year.

Basically – speak to Mary with questions.
