RECAP OF OCTOBER MEETING

We saw some amazing show and tell, inspiring work.

Brown Bag Challenge: Due in June 

Those interested in the BROWN BAG challenge for this year exchanged their brown bags and are off to the races with assembly.

Please remember that they are due in June.  If you are unable to fulfill your commitment please contact Jen to make other arrangements.

Also if you weren’t able to make the October meeting,  but wanted to participate in the Brown Bag Challenge please email Jen and arrangements can be made.

Charity Quilt – The Last Border

In case you missed September’s directions for the Charity quilts: You need to add a 7″ border to the top and bottom and a 5″ border to the sides.

Sheep Creek Weavers and Ujamaa Grandmas Sales

Hopefully you were able to partake in the wonderful sales that these two groups put on.  Thank you to those who brought this wonderful sale to our attention.

Burgess Shale Study

In November, Linda M’s piece “Trilobite” will be part of a travelling school exhibit put on by the Burgess Shale Study.  It will be at the Turner Valley School in November.  More information to come.

Quilt Retreat

Beth, Jan, Shannon and Barb S are putting on a Quilt Retreat at the Pioneer Ranch Camp in Sundre from 2pm on October 31 –  2pm on November 3.  The cost is $200.

Where Women Gather

Where Women Gather is a project based group that celebrates all types of handwork with the artful telling of a story.  There will be a featured quilting block of the month that accompanies the stories.   Our program will run on the 3rd Sunday of every month from 1 PM – 4 PM at the Millarville Community Church.

Next WWG meeting is October 20.

November 9 Meeting :

In November we will not be hosting a show and tell as we have a special treat, Valerie of Pastimes Online will be visiting us with a trunk show and bringing her store TO US. Can’t Wait!

Don’t forget to work on your Candle Mats for the December challenge.

Set Up/Take Down Crew for November: Trish W, Suzanne D, Linda Bu and Kathy K.

A note to the Set Up/Take Down Crew:  Please arrive for 8:45am.  Also please remember that you are also the take down crew at the end of our day and need to stay till at least 4pm.

Where Women Gather: October 20

Where Women Gather will meet again on October 20, 2013 at the Millarville Community Church from 1pm – 4pm.

Remember to bring your projects to work on for the first half of the afternoon.  Beth will begin her story at roughly 2:30pm.

Those who are participating in the quilt don’t forget to bring your first section.

SCW Sale and Ujamaa Grandmas Sales

INVITATION Annual Sale SCW promises local Fibre Art Extravaganza

The local fibre arts guild Sheep Creek Weavers is hosting it’s annual show and sale on Saturday 19 October, 10.00 a.m. – 4.00 p.m., at the Millarville Racetrack Hall. Admission is free and includes parking, a vintage tea house service with refreshments, demonstrations of some lost arts such as dying, spinning, felting and more.

All items are unique handmade pieces and can be purchased directly from the artist. There will be a wide range of products such as scarves, shawls, mitts, hats, socks, wall hangings, soaps, sweaters, cards, ornaments, jewelry, roving and wool offered in different price ranges from $ 20 and under to $ 100 and more.

Annual sale takes place at the Millarville Racetrack Hall, located 20 minutes SW of Calgary, near the intersection of Highways 22 and 549E.

Ujamma Grandmas: Bags, Babies and Beyond

Friday, October 18, 3:00pm – 8:00pm and Saturday, October 19, 9:00am-2:30pm

at the Marda Loop Communities Association 3130 – 16th Street SW

Items for sale will include: Their famous felted bags; cloth bags and book bags; babies and children’s items; household items; sweaters, hats, scarves, jewellery, jackets, mittens, socks, slippers, shawls, shawl pins

Meeting Reminder: October 12, 2013

Looking forward to seeing you all on October 12, 2013 for our next meeting, beginning with our Show and Tell at 9:30am. 

The demo for our October meeting will be the Trip Around the World Block using the Tube Method with Jen.

If you aren’t able to join us, Jen will be emailing the demo notes as well as posting them on the blog under the challenge section.

Brown Bag Challenge: For those of you who are interested in participating in this year’s Brown Bag Challenge- PLEASE REMEMBER YOUR BROWN BAG WITH YOUR 4 FAT QUARTERS  and a simple note inside stating that you contributed the fabric to the quilt.

If you would like to participate in the BROWN BAG CHALLENGE but are not able to attend in October, please email Jen and other arrangements can be made.
